MealNest ("we", "us", or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

1. Information We Collect

We collect information you provide directly:

Account information (email, name, password)
Family profile details (household size, dietary preferences, disliked ingredients)
Meal plans, recipes, and grocery lists you create
Who's Home availability schedules
Phone numbers (for optional SMS reminders)

2. Google Calendar Integration

            MealNest uses Google Calendar data solely to auto-fill your "Who's Home" availability schedule. We read evening events (5 PM or later) from your primary calendar to determine when each parent is unavailable for cooking.
        

Specifically, when you connect Google Calendar:

We request read-only access to your Google Calendar (calendar.readonly scope)
We fetch events from your primary calendar for the current week
We identify evening events to mark availability in your MealNest schedule
We store your OAuth tokens (encrypted) to allow automatic syncing
We never read, store, or share the content of your calendar events beyond detecting their time and existence
We never write to or modify your Google Calendar

You can disconnect Google Calendar at any time from Settings. Disconnecting immediately deletes your stored tokens.

MealNest's use of Google Calendar data complies with the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

3. How We Use Your Data

To generate personalized weekly meal plans based on your family's preferences
To create grocery lists from your meal plan
To send optional SMS reminders about your meal plan (only if you opt in)
To sync your Who's Home schedule from Google Calendar (only if you connect it)
To improve MealNest's meal recommendations over time based on your feedback

4. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored in a secure PostgreSQL database hosted on Neon. OAuth tokens (including Google Calendar tokens) are encrypted at rest using industry-standard encryption. We use HTTPS for all data in transit.

We do not sell your personal data to any third parties.

5. Third-Party Services

MealNest uses the following third-party services:

Google Calendar API — for calendar sync (read-only, with your consent)
Twilio — for optional SMS meal reminders
Stripe — for payment processing
Anthropic Claude — for AI-powered meal planning and recipe import

6. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time by emailing mealnest@polsia.app.

7. Your Rights

You have the right to:

Access the personal data we hold about you
Correct inaccurate data
Request deletion of your data
Revoke connected integrations (e.g., Google Calendar) at any time
Opt out of SMS communications at any time

8. Children's Privacy

MealNest is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via email or a notice in the app.
